Aged Care

Aged care facilities like Bupa Aged Care in Sutherland require additional measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents who are more vulnerable to various risks due to age-related health conditions. Fire safety, emergency lighting, temperature monitoring, and water sterilisation systems must operate without issue to protect residents and comply with strict regulations. WBS products, through our Elumen and Plexus brands, offer a range of innovative solutions that are seamlessly integrated, creating an environment that is more safe and efficient than available traditional solutions.

Networking Emergency Lighting (Elumen)

Powered by LoRa technology, Elumen’s Networking Emergency range integrates with the Plexus mesh network for automated self-testing and real-time status reporting. Acting as repeaters, these devices strengthen communication and ensure reliable data transmission. This integration allows Plexus-compatible devices to connect with the Plexus Gateway, enabling maintenance teams to remotely monitor emergency lights and other systems via the Plexus console. This results in streamlined operations, regulatory compliance, and fully functional, continuously monitored emergency systems.

Tether [I/O Monitoring] (Plexus)

Water safety is paramount in aged care facilities, particularly to prevent waterborne illnesses like legionella. At ANZAC Village, the Plexus Tether is vital to the UV water treatment system, monitoring the UV lamps that sterilise water and mitigating health risks for immunocompromised residents. Tether is a versatile device that connects third-party systems to the Plexus network, including the ballast powering the UV lamp, and sends instant alerts to the maintenance team in case of failure. Its seamless integration ensures a cost-effective, efficient setup, enabling real-time monitoring to safeguard water quality and minimise infection risks.

The Elumen Saturn smoke alarm

Saturn Smoke Alarms (Elumen)

At RSL LifeCare ANZAC Village in Austral, over 270 Elumen Saturn smoke alarms ensure reliable fire detection. Traditionally, testing smoke alarms required fake smoke to be sprayed in individual rooms, a process that is disruptive to residents and is time-consuming. Saturn’s self-testing capabilities integrated into the Plexus mesh network simplifies this process. Maintenance teams can initiate tests remotely via the Elumen app or Plexus console, completing tests in minutes, reducing labor costs, minimising disruptions, and preserves the privacy and comfort of residents.

The Elumen Kelvin Dot temperature sensor

Kelvin Dot (Plexus)

Temperature control is critical in facilities like RSL LifeCare ANZAC Village, particularly in kitchens where food safety is a priority. The Kelvin Dot wireless temperature and humidity sensor is deployed in the facility’s fridges and freezers, providing real-time monitoring with live updates. This sensor ensures that any issues, such as malfunctioning equipment or open doors, are quickly identified, allowing staff to intervene before food spoilage occurs. SMS alerts enable rapid response, preventing costly waste and ensuring food safety, especially for health-compromised residents.

Plexus Gateway (Plexus)

At the core of the Plexus network is the third-generation Plexus Gateway, a standalone device installed in the facility’s main office. It provides GSM connectivity for Plexus-enabled devices, using them as long-range wireless repeaters to create a smart, connected environment. Even during internet outages or power failures, the Gateway ensures uninterrupted monitoring of emergency systems with its built-in 4G connection and backup lithium battery. This redundancy keeps systems online, transmitting vital alarms and SMS notifications to maintain safety and compliance in all conditions.

Through Elumen and Plexus, WBS provides aged care facilities with an advanced safety system that enhances fire safety, emergency lighting, water sterilisation, and environmental monitoring. With the integration of Elumen’s Saturn smoke alarms, networking emergency lights, Kelvin Dot temperature sensors, and Plexus Tether and Gateway, the a unified network is created that ensures compliance with strict safety regulations while enabling real-time monitoring and alerts. When combined with automated testing, instant notifications, and streamlined maintenance, WBS ensures significant time and cost savings through proactively addressing risks such as water sterilisation lamp failures or kitchen fridge malfunctions. These solutions ultimately safeguard vulnerable residents, protects operations, and offers facility managers peace of mind in a cost-effective, user-friendly way.
